Dr. Nayanathara De Silva
Artistic Director | Tattva Kathak Dance Studio | PhD in Kathak Dance
With a PhD in Kathak Dance from Banaras Hindu University (2018), specializing in semiotic analysis of Kandyan and Kathak dance, Nayanathara brings a unique blend of performance, choreography, and academic research.
She has been trained in Lucknow Gharana of Kathak under the guidance of Prof. Ranjana Shrivastava, Dr. Vidhi Nagar, and Pt. Om Prakash Mishra the nephew of legendary Kathak Maestro Pt. Birju Maharaj. She has pursued her PhD under Prof. Premchand Homble from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.
She has extensive expertise in Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Kandyan, SriLankan Folk, Dance Anthropology, Media, and Communication Studies. A Prabhakar in Kathak (Prayaag Sangeet Samiti) and Visharad in Bharatanatyam (Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapith), Nayanathara has been working as an Assistant Professor at CHRIST University, Bangalore. She also has received multiple prestigious scholarships from ICCR, India-Sri Lanka Foundation, and Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund. She also has performed at several prestigious stages including Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
As the Artistic Director of Tattva Kathak Dance Studio, Nayanathara continues to explore the intersections of dance, culture, and media through performances, conferences, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
